Recap

I'm blogging to put off cleaning the apartment, which Tony is currently doing. Bad wife, I know.

A few weeks ago Tony turned 25. We celebrated by watching Up, which was wonderful, and we ordered Tony's favorite chinese food, hazelnut chicken. For a cake I made "the bomb" which we managed to finish off in about a day because we ate it for every meal. Super yummy.

The next two weekends we spent meeting our new family members. Specifically, Melanie and Brodie's new baby boy Olen and Shelly and Eric's new baby girl Avery. Here's the proof.

We had a great time visiting Tony's brother and sister in Montana because we hadn't seen them in over a year. We also got some work done at Jason and Kim's place.

Okay, not really I was just pretending to be a cowgirl. But I did love seeing all the animals, especially the little horses.

Now I have to find something else to do to get out of cleaning!

Crash Course in Parenthood

That's what we got this weekend! We took care of my niece and nephew while Tyler and Ashley went to the coast. I planned on taking pictures of everything we did and making a nice little blog describing how we spent our weekend, but then reality set in and I gave up my plan after Saturday morning. Unfortunately we were too busy to use the camera much. I had also planned to do a lot more activities (really wanted to go to the children's museum) but I underestimated how much time is spent eating, sleeping, and changing diapers. Which I think is probably the biggest lesson I learned-that kids do not allow life to be very structured and perfectly planned. I also learned that Luke likes to put as much food as possible in his mouth. This is probably the whole stick of string cheese coming out of his mouth.

I fed him stir fry for dinner and I was amazed that he would eat everything I gave him, broccoli, chicken, peas, water chestnuts, pineapple. And then I realized that he was not swallowing, he was just chewing it and stashing it away somewhere in his mouth. And then everything came out in a big ball.

I also learned that Lydia is hilarious. I brought a few items I picked up at the dollar store, which Lydia put on as soon as she saw them. So I asked if she would let me take her picture with her princess clothes on and this is was her pose. (I have to apologize to Ashley for never doing Lydia's hair. It never really occured to me until grandma came and made a comment.)
We did get some Halloween cookie decorating in and we had a lot of fun just playing around the house.
One of my favorite parts of this weekend was when we went to Petco because they both seemed to like it and the animals were cool. Luke liked the ferrets and Lydia shouted Nemo! when she saw the clown fish in the wall of fish tanks.

But my absolute favorite part was Lydia thanking me for playing with her and Luke running to give me a hug over and over again any time I sat on the floor. Love these kiddos!

Resolution

After visiting seven stores we finally found the couch for us. I'm amazed we found a sofa we both like but we were triumphant. The only bad thing was we had to wait a week for it to be delivered, but we really learned to appreciate having furniture to sit on while we were waiting. So here it is, with it's matching love seat. It's supposed to look like leather but it's actually micro- suede or something.

Before

After

It's been kind of a rough week this week and last. And yesterday I bumped into a parked car at work which did not add to the fun I've been having. But today I feel like things are on the upswing and I've got couches to sit on so life's ok.

And this is old and random but this picture was on my camera from my birthday so I thought I would show off the cool cake I bought myself. Because I'm such a fan of dogs. (ok it was on sale, I don't really like dogs)

Our Marriage is Saved!

I was getting worried there for a while. All because of this...

It all started a few weeks ago when we bought this sectional from Craigslist. And even though we both agreed to buy it at the time, Tony regretted the purchase soon after. But I liked it even though it was a little dirty and stinky because it was real comfy. So we battled it out for the past couple of weeks and I finally gave in. We reposted it on Craigslist this weekend, it sold almost immediately and Tony is delivering it as I type. The funny thing is how happy Tony became as soon as it sold. I didn't realize how bad it was affecting his mood and therefore my mood. But I feel as though a weight has been lifted off our shoulders and we can live in peace again. Until we have to pick out another couch, which will probably be really hard for us because we are both very indecisive. So if you want to come over you'll have to sit on the floor for at least a little while. (The good news is we actually sold it for more than we paid for it, so I guess the situation's not all bad)

I also have to mention, for anyone that is interested in food storage, we found some really good powdered milk. A friend in our ward gave us a case to try out and it tasted just like normal milk! I'm still amazed. Maybe powdered milk has just improved since the last time I tried it like 15 years ago, but this stuff is definitely good.

GIANT FLYING ANTS!!

This morning I did some laundry at our apartments. I heard some rustling in the blinds so I looked over and saw what I thought was a wasp. No big deal. Later I went to change the laundry and I heard the rustling near the blinds again. And I saw no, not a single "wasp" but a wall, ceiling, and basically the entire room full of giant insects. So I ran out of the room screaming, leaving the dryer half full. I had a serious case of the heeby-jeebies especially since when I came into our apartment I was yelling at Tony to make sure I wasn't covered in them and he said I wasn't but then I saw one on the floor and freaked out all over again. I probably overreacted, but wouldn't you in this situation?!

Luckily Tony was brave enough to go get the clothes from the laundry room, but we were unable to dry the rest of our clothes there. And Tony discovered they were actually giant flying ants, not wasps. I tried to get a picture, but when we opened the door to get the picture, they charged at us and we ran away. So here's a picture of one on the door.

And this is a picture that I thought was cool because there was one brave little flower that bloomed. That was two weeks ago and now they all have bloomed.

And I've put this picture up because I think I'm getting pretty good at this hair cutting thing. We've been doing it for a while now, but this time we accidentally went too short on the buzzed part because Tony forgot he had his beard trimming attachment on his razor. But we discovered that after I made the first buzz. So it's really short but I think it looks fantastic.

Aaaand one more thing, speaking of Tony, he just got an internship with a company called Turner Construction. But I'll let him blog more about that because he has been slacking on his blogging duties.
